We think a lot. We have opinions. About architecture. About acoustics. And why a really good album hasn’t been released since December 1, 1973 – in other words, Black Sabbath’s fifth studio album. Sometimes it happens. The magic. Protests, songs of praise? Speak now or forever hold your peace.

How to do an access panel in a Fellert ceiling

20 March 2012 | Category: How does it really work

To get accessibility to lighting, sprinkler, ventilation installations etc. in a fixed ceiling you’d need some kind of access panel.

The installation details below explains how to do this in two different ways.

First detail shows how to install a traditional hatch in line with the ceiling.

Second detail show how to install a drop down hatch.

If you desire the panel to have the same plastered finish as the rest of the ceiling, apply Fellert primer mixed with sand on the hatch and leave to dry. When dry spray hatch with Fellert plaster and trowel to the desired finish.

If everything is done perfectly right -it will look something like this:

Bloody Mary at Absolut bar Landvetter airport

19 March 2012 | Category: Interesting facts, The incomparable Fellert humor

Dull, worn out glasses but a rich taste. Plenty of Tabasco. Nothing extra besides the lemon slice as decoration.
The bartender was very friendly though!

Fellert at Hazeltine Country club

19 March 2012 | Category: Restaurants, lounges & clubs, Great Sound, Good Looks

This prestigious country club needed to replace their fifty year old clubhouse to better meet the needs of the PGA golf professionals they host.  As such the club wanted their accommodations to be top shelf. Speech intelligibility in the private dining area where members congregate for meetings and discussions was very important.  Due to the extensive use of glass and hard surfaces the ceiling became the only place for sound absorption.

Acoustic plaster was chosen for the ceiling not only for design flexibility and performance, but also to conform to the clubs strict standards for environmental responsibility.  The designer created a cantilevered set of ceiling sections with attractive lighting for maximum visual and acoustical effect. This design greatly reduced the reverberation time, providing the level of speech intelligibility desired in the dining room.  The clean, monothlic appearance of the ceiling does not detract from view of the beautiful golf course.
The contractor on the project executed the cantilevered design perfectly with clean, crisp lines.  The day after the installation was finished the sprinkler pipe burst causing damage to the ceiling.  Due to highly repairable nature of the product the contractor was able to bring it back to the original appearance without the need for replacing the entire ceiling.

The architect and the country club were both very happy with the results of the finished space.  Both the pre-function and dining room area performed as desired due to the use of the acoustical plaster.  The country club is ready for the Ryder Cup Matches they will be hosting in 2016.

St Gabriel’s church Poway, CA

17 March 2012 | Category: Spiritual places, churches & temples, Great Sound, Good Looks

Hyndman & Hyndman Architecture vision for St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church in Poway, California was old world Spanish mission style, while satisfying requirements for green construction and sound control.   The Fellert Ultra acoustical plaster system supplied by Fellert North America and Calply was chosen to realize this vision.  The ceiling had to be monolithic and finished to look like traditional plaster, but functional enough to absorb the right level of sound to maximize speech intelligibility and enhance the music.   This required a high degree of craftsmanship and care on the part of the contractor, The Brady Company/ San Diego.

Every man’s got his limits

16 March 2012 | Category: Things happens, The incomparable Fellert humor

This is a true story that took place when yours truly, the Bald guy of Fellert were invited to participate when the front figure of the main architect for the Cité le Ocean et du Surf in Biarritz SW France, Mr. Steven Holl came over for an inspection.

Happy to be invited i went there with a big camera in one hand and my briefcase and suitcase in the other hand. I was well taken care of when i arrived and introduced to the site management and i even got a private tour of the project while we were waiting for Mr. Holl to arrive.

Kindly enough they allowed me to stove away my luggage so i didn’t have to carry that around all day.

Then i strolled around for about an hour, taking hundreds of pictures for future reference while i was waiting for the inspection to start.

Once Mr. Holl arrived we spent several hours walking around the project inspecting every detail.

Around lunchtime we broke up. I had to go to the airport and the rest of the team had other meetings, so i went to get my luggage but got very surprised when the door was locked and no one was there.

I had some margin before i had to be at the airport so i decided to wait until someone showed up. The sun was shining so i sat down relaxing.

When i had waited for a good half an hour i started to feel the panic raising and i started to think of alternative solutions.

I decided to wait another 30 minutes and if no one would show up, i would break the door open and get my things in order to get to the airport in time.

When 25 minutes had passed i wasn’t too happy about things. I kind of wondered what people would think when they came back and found the door broken and realized the only things “stolen” were my bags. You don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to find out who’s guilty…

Anyway i found a steel rod that could be used to force the door open at was just about to get into action when i heard a voice behind me.

The very last second someone showed up and i was able to get my bags and leave.

On my way out i met the rest of the team returning from lunch, so i had to tell them the story, which at that point were rather amusing.

The meaning of Fellersatile

15 March 2012 | Category: Interesting facts, Great Sound, Good Looks

A couple of years ago we sat down and discussed how to best describe the versatility of the Fellert system.

It is sometimes problematic to simplify something that can take any shape, any color and any texture and on top of that be installed in numerous different ways.

Suddenly it was all clear to us – it was Fellersatile.

See some of the possibilities below

Fellert in Finland

I don’t speak a single word of Finnish and i know most people in the world don’t, but even if you can’t understand a single word, this video is still very amusing!

Great work by our friends at Acoustic Scandinavia.
