Noise and public health hazards

We can define noise as all unwished-for sound. Sometimes we’re aware of noise and find it disturbing, but usually it’s just a part of the background and we seldom take notice. It can be from the traffic on the street just outside the window, the soft hum from ventilation or electrical devices, or from people chatting nearby.

Why is noise a public health hazard?

If you are subjected to too much noise for a longer period of time, this usually manifests itself by you tiring faster, having difficulty in concentrating, headaches or even dizziness. It’s a matter of comfort and well-being. A non-dampened room is perceived as cold, hard and inhospitable, while a well-dampened room as warm and welcoming. People just feel a lot better in a well-dampened environment.

Are there different kinds of noise?

We can roughly divide noise into two different types: Noise that comes from outside or from an adjoining room, or noise that comes from a room itself. Noise that comes from outside or an adjoining room is handled with sound proofing insulation, while noise that comes from the room itself must be absorbed so that it isn’t amplified and create echo effects as it bounces off the walls and ceiling. It’s in the latter case that Fellert comes into the picture.

How does the Fellert system work?

Because the Fellert system is able to absorb nearly all sound, there is almost no bounce at all (sound reflection) from Fellert surfaces, and consequently almost no echoing or sound amplification. The result is a quieter environment, free from echoes. When it’s quieter, we subconsciously lower our voices since we don’t have to speak loudly to be heard. And if there is no echoing, it’s also much easier to understand what is said even though everyone has lowered their voices.

Why you should choose Fellert

Noise-absorbing materials are needed in nearly all buildings. In some cases, this can be resolved with smart furnishing. Heavy carpets, wall-to-wall carpeting and well-upholstered furniture make a big difference. But in most cases, smart furnishing is not enough.
There are many products to choose among, which just like Fellert’s products, absorb sound.
Fellert however, has what most others lack – the capability to blend into the environment. Because Fellert products give the appearance of a conventional painted surface, no one will be able to see that you’ve installed sound-absorbing products in your building. You can thus have a good acoustical environment without sacrificing appearance.
